Women's Leadership Institute for Women's Leadership

2006 eNews 1st quarter

Dear Friends,

Well as you can see we have decided to by pass the traditional IWL eNews format and give you a concise wrap up on what is new at IWL. As 2006 unfolds we will assess what is the best format to stay in communication but I have to take a moment to deeply thank both Sandy Caldwell and Brian Hibbits who have heroically produced our eNews over the years. What outstanding and dedicated partners they have been!

Due to some downsizing in our consulting business we will be saying good-bye to our beloved President, Helen Waters. Over the past 3 years, Helen has been a true business partner and thought partner, with her vision, rigor and humanness. Shešs contributed unprecedented levels of leadership, strategy, maturity, competence and execution to IWL. What shešs brought to the IWL table includes...

* A successful and ongoing record of improving organizationsš effectiveness * business strategy and financial planning * business operations execution * business consulting * managing people * Principled, courageous leadership * Maturity and commitment * Big sense of humor and a gift for analogies

Some local company is going to be extremely fortunate to hire Helen and if you'd like to stay in touch with her or wish her well you can contact her at 650-303-4603 or hc_waters@yahoo.com. We will miss dearly Helen and are so grateful for her huge contribution to IWL!!

On the expansion front we are excited about the success of our Executives Leading Sustainable Change and particularly the advanced student program called Sempai. These are women executives who have a vision for their industry, community or society at large to be transformed. They have forged a powerful community within IWL and will be not only continuing their own training and development but supporting the recruitment and training and development of executives from across the U.S. You'll be hearing more about that after our February session.

Also I am partnering with Keith Hollihan to write a book on Contextual Leadership which we hope to complete and maybe even published by September. We have decided to write a broader based book that uses lots of women's leadership examples but isn't limited to the women's leadership market. The more I hear about how you have applied Contextual Leadership skills within your relationship, your family, your life outside of work, the more I am convinced that it will be helpful to all women, men and young adults who want to affect change in themselves and others. If you have anecdotes or stories of what you have accomplished since participating with us then please let me know and we will see how we might include them.

In a couple of weeks I am headed off to Harvard to participate in the Center for Public Leadership Women's leadership Forum 2006. It will feature a blockbuster set of scholars, leadership practitioners, and even some celebrities focusing on the important area of women's leadership in organizations, community and society. I am deeply honored to be chosen for this prestigious event and will let you know my reflections upon my return. While in Boston I will also take some time to conduct training with the young women who are graduate student in Harvard's "From Harvard Square to the Oval Office" program. These women will one day be cabinet members and of course, President of the United States!

2006 promises to be a breakthrough year for IWL on many fronts. We will be returning to a greater focus on the training programs, Women Leading Change and Executives Leading Sustainable Change. We will also be designing a variety of ways for the IWL community to connect with each other and leverage each other's resources. We hope to host reunions in several parts of the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii and seek to make connections with our alumni in Australia and Canada. If you wish to play a leadership role in any of these activities then please let me know.

So for now I will sign off bit as always we would love to hear from you and please let us know if we can be of service in any way.

With love and gratitude, Rayona
